Hi All! Welcome to my first blog post! I am posting this in response to my HUM-150 ePortfolio first prompt. In our first prompt we are asked: “You will introduce yourself and your topic of choice by finding one image and one video from the internet, both of which correlate to your topic. Tell us why you chose the image and the video and how they connect you to the topic you want to examine this semester through your portfolio.”
My name is Rebecca Woodard! After looking over some of our topic ideas and then thinking about it myself, I decided that I wanted my topic to be Violence Against Women. While this is no easy subject for anyone to talk about, I feel that it is incredibly important, because there are often many misconceptions about those who find themselves in this kind of situation, but how it truly needs to end. When looking for both a video and image, I was able to find a TED Talk that is actually one of my personal favorites. The talk, from Jackson Katz, is “Violence Against Women–It’s a Men’s Issue,” is a TED Talk that I feel that everyone should hear at least once. You can watch it yourself by following this link: https://www.ted.com/talks/jackson_katz_violence_against_women_it_s_a_men_s_issue?utm_campaign=tedspread&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=tedcomshare
My photo comes from the World Health Organization, and tells of the statistics involving Violence Against Women. You can see it by following this link: https://contacts.google.com/?hl=en&tab=iC1&authuser=0
You are right it is a hard topic to discuss and that it is important. Some of the most important topics we need to discuss as a society and as women are the most difficult ones. One misconception I hope you cover is that a woman brought it one herself or she did something to deserve it. No one deserves to be beaten or mistreated. Good luck on your blog.

While it can be a very difficult and even heartbreaking topic to discuss and share your beliefs/ views about, it is very important. Hi Rebecca! This is a very important topic that barely sees the light of day….. and I think It’s important for women of all cultures to talk about this issue. It’s still ongoing behind closed doors and it’s devastating and It’s increasing all over the world and in my opinion it has some connections with sex trafficking as well. These are scary topics that need to be talked about and women in general and men need to become more knowledgeable of whats actually going on. Nice job on your first blog Rebecca! I can’t wait to hear more of your perspective on this issue.
